He was born in Reggio Emilia, where he lives and works. He began taking photographs whilst still at school, using an old folding camera he found in the attic. His main focus is on landscapes, in which he seeks to convey the emotions and moods that these places evoke, whilst in his portraits he brings out the subject’s character, their mannerisms and the bond that is forged with the people he photographs. His work has been featured in several solo exhibitions in Reggio Emilia, Venice, Montecchio Emilia, Bergamo and Gualtieri. In March 2024, he took part in the fourth edition of the ‘IMPULSE FESTIVAL’ in Arles with the project ‘Noir sans Blanc’. In July 2024, the ‘Noir sans Blanc’ project was exhibited as part of the ‘Rencontres’ Photography Festival in Arles. His photographs are held in the Photo Library of the Panizzi Library in Reggio Emilia and in numerous private collections.
Project Statement
I stopped many people who were passing through from one place to another, so that they might be etched into my memory, into my heart, onto my photographic paper. I photographed men and women who seemed happy or seemed sad, people on the move, restless people, people happy to linger with me, others ready to flee, ready to set off, ready to go, ready to return, ready to stay. They were all in their cars, a MEANS of reaching nearby destinations, distant destinations, familiar destinations, new destinations, the right destinations, the wrong destinations. Some loved the car, others used it, some adored it, others hated it. But they all drove it, or perhaps let themselves be driven in turn.
