Liquid Natural Scenery of the Lancang River
Nature offers beautiful scenery on land and water alike. Most viewers focus on terrestrial landscapes, while few notice or capture the liquid natural patterns on water surfaces.
Since 2010, I have worked to photograph such aquatic scenes. This submission includes six images captured on the Lancang River. Each records a fleeting natural formation shaped by sunlight and moving water. Real scenes shot in situ, they resemble documentary photography yet carry painterly qualities.
These transient liquid scenes are harder to capture than land landscapes, magical and narrative. Each shot freezes a moment into a unique artwork that cannot be recreated.
I use my self-developed method of transforming subjects. Flowing water and light build new compositions. No staging, PS or AI generation. Post-processing is limited to cropping and subtle tone adjustments; nothing is added or removed. Painterly as they are, these images come purely from nature.
Shooting liquid scenery is much harder than conventional landscape photography. I have explored this art for 17 years with limited successful shots and will continue.
This is an original, promising photographic genre. Subjects include rivers, lakes and streams. It is a resource with cultural and tourism value, an innovative photography style awaiting wider recognition.
