Tom Haynes

Tom is a Brisbane-based photographer who explores the intersection of structural design and unscripted human moments. Balancing a full-time career as a mechanical engineer with a dedication to visual storytelling, his work brings a unique duality to nostalgic street and automotive photography. He captures the subtle poetry of urban environments and classic machinery, framing fleeting scenes with a timeless, classic film aesthetic.
Driven by a desire to evoke calm nostalgia, Tom focuses on transforming his observations into tangible experiences. Rather than letting images live exclusively on digital screens, he crafts curated, framed fine art prints and photo zines designed for living spaces, hospitality venues, and gallery exhibitions. Through his lens, he invites viewers to slow down and find a quiet connection in the beautifully engineered and candid details of everyday life.

Photographer Statement

There is a quiet, universal language in the moments when we simply pause to watch the world go by. My intention is to evoke a deep, calm nostalgia—capturing the kind of stillness that feels simultaneously fleeting and eternal.
Whether swapping stories against a bustling skyline, enjoying a shared focus or admiring architecture in the sun, these scenes capture the unassuming pauses of daily life. By framing the subjects from behind and from the periphery, I wanted to strip away the specificity of the individuals and focus instead on the shared human experience.
Through these warm, filmic tones and gentle framing, I invite the viewer to stop, look, and remember. My hope is that you recognize these scenes as memories of your own—a peaceful echo of a place you feel you have once stood.
