Mladen Kalanja

My name is Mladen Kalanja, and I am an amateur photographer from Serbia. I discovered my interest in photography several years ago, and what began as a curiosity gradually developed into a serious and increasingly important creative pursuit. I create most of my photographs using Samsung Galaxy S-series smartphones, which allows me to photograph spontaneously and remain close to everyday life.

Project Statement

As a naturally introverted person, I find photography to be a way of observing the world quietly and at my own pace. I am drawn to the geometry of buildings, windows and urban spaces, but also to ordinary scenes from streets, public transport, markets and everyday life. I often photograph whatever unexpectedly catches my attention, following an intuitive approach that could be summed up as: “photograph first, think later.”
I am interested in the moments when something ordinary suddenly becomes visually or emotionally intriguing. Photography allows me to slow down, notice details, and transform fleeting observations into images. I do not always know what an image means when I take it. Sometimes that meaning emerges only afterwards, when I look at the photograph again.
