Alex Zaf

My name is Alexandros Zafeiridis (Alex Zaf). I am a Greek (born in USA) visual artist currently based in Athens. My work is both digital and analog based. My artistic content explores themes mostly through the prism of personal documentary. Based on my own personal questions at each time (such as self/gender expression, solitude, memory, longing, transformation) I aim to create a shared space with the viewer. I believe images should raise questions and encourage an open-dialogue, more than strictly “spout out” answers. As for the images’ subject, anything that fits the theme inspires me; staged or not, breathing or inanimate everything is a portrait. This helps me maintain a youthful/innocent approach. Through my images and sequencing I try to form an immersive rhythm, which the viewer can experience as in a dream. If there’s “music” (rhythm), there’s narrative, and that’s my main goal.

Alexandros Zafeiridis (ALEX ZAF) was born in 1994 in Philadelphia – U.S.A., and lived there until the age of six. In 2000 they moved back to Greece. Graduated from medical school from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) in 2018. They studied contemporary photography seminars in Stereosis School for contemporary photography in Thessaloniki. Their work has been part of printed and online issues, group exhibitions in Greece ( Benaki Museum-Athens Photo Festival, MOMus-Thessaloniki, Herizons II Festival-Thessaloniki, Stereosis SSP-Thessaloniki, Photometria Festival-Ioannina, Photopolis Festival-Agrinio, House of Lucie Athens, ΔΛ Gallery Athens “Somewhere Called Home-ΔΛ Gallery Athens (2025), QueerCon 2025-Hellenic American Union-Athens (2025), “Skin As Shelter”House of Lucie-Athens (2025) ) and abroad (exhibitions “FAKE” and “MEMORY” at CTypeMag Gallery, Bangkok, “What is the FIrst Image you Remember ”, Zeroartspace, Tokyo, Japan, Cambridge Photo Gallery, Float Magazine, NY). Their work “So Much Love” was published in the form of a zine be Athens-VOID (2019) and selfpublished as a photobook in 09/2023 in collaboration with L.LABS. Artist Statement

In this series of images I attempt to highlight the notion of everyday-unending chaos. “Disproportionized” subjects relay the sense of anarchy in its “mundane” form. A slightly dim light, a low frequency tinnitus, an exaggerated expression/gesture, form a current; a shared rhythm that guides us through…These feelings, these wordless conversations, though objectively subjective, are constantly present. Even the smallest things that are in front of us everyday can be chaotic (dark or blinding), and there’s a mesmerizing beauty in that. All that’s needed is a change of perspective.
