I’m Nilay. I’m 24 years old and I live in Istanbul. I’m an interior architect, and I believe that one of the most important qualities an interior architect should have is the ability to truly see. Trusting this ability, I’ve been exploring and photographing for years. If you’d like to know more about me, just look at my photos—because that’s where I express myself the best.
Project Statement
The Silent Rhythm of the City. “Photography, for me, is a way to capture quiet and timeless moments hidden inside a chaotic city. In my work, I usually focus on the relationship between people and the spaces around them. In big cities like Istanbul, I look for the way an individual stands against the huge cityscape—sometimes in the simple geometric line of a fisherman’s rod, sometimes in a silhouette fading into the sunset.
In this series, my aim was to show the calmness of people resting by the water and the natural compositions they create with the city’s architecture. I don’t only want to present a view; I want the viewer to feel the atmosphere and the sense of peace in that moment.”
